I don't know if all of the names for TG, the Collection are correct. Only a few of the stories show a title. So, for stories that I had to find the title from other sources, I have a short description in brackets.
This is the first Tank Girl comic that I got. It's a good introduction to Tank Girl IMO. The art, by Jamie Hewlett, is excellent and Alan Martin's stories are also very good.
I suggest this as a good intro to TG comics since the stories and writing is a bit less insane than some other stories. It helps to initiate people without scaring them away ;-). This is not say that they are in any way as "bland" as some more mainstream comics. There's plenty of lager, shagging and Tank antics, but not as much of the really psychotic mayhem of TG2 or Apocalypse and Odessey.
This is the second TG comic that I acquired. The art and story are by Hewlett and Martin again, and again very good. However, there is more variety in the style of art and writing (especially the art) between the individual stories. While Tank Girl: TC was more or less even in the style, here it goes from more or less normal in Summer Love Sensation, to completely psychadelic in Askey&Hunch.
These stories do get quite a bit weirder than TG: TC, but I love it, and I have a feeling that other TG fans don't mind it either (otherwise we would never have been drawn to Tanky!
I'll do this section once I find all four issues (I only have 2,3, and 4 right now).
Apocalypse! is the latest addition to my collection. The art is no longer by Hewlett, instead it is by Philip Bond who unfortunately doesn't have Hewlett's knack for detail. It is missing the background activity, like the small graffiti that Hewlett could so subtly add to virtually any frame. The writer is Alan Grant, his work is more in line with Tank Girl standards, and is quite good.
Tank Girl, Apocalypse! is the Tank Girl re-telling of the classic end of the world story, so often spoken of in western religion. It follow our now pregnant Tanky from the Aussie outback to the surface Mars. But, that's all I'll reveal here, if you want to know how the rest of the story goes, buy the comic!
Despite bad reviews, I didn't think that Apocalypse! was that bad, though IMO it is not as good as some of the other TG stories are. The fact that it is so long (a rarity for TG stories) with an engaging plot, makes it worth reading.
Thanks to Michael Waltz I got a story which was not reprinted in either of the first 2 collections. The story, along with my review are located here.
Unlike some TG fans (and some movie fans), I thought the TG movie was quite good. It has a decent story, which was far fetched at times, but hey if you don't like that why are you reading TG???
The acting was good, and I think esp. Lori Petty did a great job as Tanky(I hate the name Rebecca
Overall, I'd give it 4/5.
